Why it matters
Why reviews decide who gets the call
- Great work, but only a handful of reviews
- Old reviews and nothing recent
- A rival with more reviews ranks above you
- You meant to ask, then the next job started
Good work is not enough on its own
Most people check reviews before they ring a tradesperson. They search, see two or three firms side by side and look at the ratings. The firm with more recent, genuine reviews usually gets the first call.
Owners know this, and most want to get more Google reviews. The problem is time. You finish a job, load the van and head to the next one. Asking for a review feels awkward, so it slips. Meanwhile happy customers say thanks and never think about it again.
We run an exterior cleaning firm, so we know exactly how it goes. That is why we built review automation for small businesses like ours: one polite request after every job, sent for you. Our Google Business Profile optimisation gets you seen. Reviews help people choose you once they find you.

How it works
How the review request works
Four steps, all automatic once it is set up.
You finish the job
You tick it off as done in your CRM, or we trigger it from your invoice or job list.
A text goes out
Within a few hours the customer gets a short message in your name with a one-tap link to your Google review page.
One gentle reminder
If nothing happens, a polite nudge follows a few days later. No more than that.
The review lands
It appears on your Google profile. We flag it to you so you can say thanks and reply.
We write the message with you, so it sounds like your firm and not a robot. It uses the customer's first name, thanks them for the job and links straight to your Google review page. One tap, no searching for your business.
The trigger sits inside your CRM and follow-up automation. When a job is marked complete, the request is queued. If the customer replies with a problem, the reminder stops and the message lands with you, so you can call them and put it right while it is still fresh.
Why a text works better than asking in person
People are happiest the moment a job is done, but that is also when you are packing up. A message a few hours later catches them while the result is fresh and gives them a moment to answer when it suits them. Most people read texts quickly, which is why we send by text or WhatsApp instead of email.
What good wording looks like
Keep it short. Say thanks. Say why the review helps a small firm. Give the link. That is all. We do not use pressure, and we never offer rewards in exchange for a review, as that breaks Google's rules.
Put reviews to work
Where we use your reviews
A review earns its keep more than once.
Reviews build the profile people see first
When someone searches for your trade, your Google profile is often the first thing they see. Recent reviews sit right beside your name, photos and opening hours.
Your Google profile
Fresh reviews help your profile stand out in the map results, next to your photos and opening hours.
Your website
Real customer words on your homepage and service pages answer the question every visitor has: can I trust you?
Your ads
A line from a happy customer makes a Facebook or Instagram ad feel like a recommendation, not a pitch.
Local search
Reviews that mention your service and town give Google more to work with for local searches.
Quotes and replies
Send a link to your reviews with a quote and the customer can check you out before they reply.
Your team
Praise for a named engineer or crew is good for morale. Share it with the people who earned it.
New reviews do more than sit on a profile. We pull the best lines into your website and use them as social proof in your ads. Mentions of a town or service help your local SEO too. For more on getting the profile itself right, read our guide to Google Business Profile tips for tradespeople.

When it goes wrong
Handling a bad review
Every firm gets one eventually. A customer who is cross, a misunderstanding about a quote, or someone who never booked with you at all. A single poor review among many good ones is normal, and buyers know it.
This is the part of reputation management for trades that nobody can automate: the reply. How you answer matters more than the review itself. Future customers read your reply to judge what you are like when something goes wrong.
Reply quickly
Aim for a day or two. A quick, calm reply shows you take it seriously.
Stay polite
Never argue in public. Write for the next customer who is reading, not the one who is cross.
Take it offline
Thank them, say sorry for the experience and offer a call to sort it out.
Fix it, then follow up
If you put it right, a customer may update their review. Never ask them to delete it.
Social proof in action
What happy customers say gets noticed
Here is a real example from a business we work with.

Big thanks to the Grafter Media team 🙌 I've raised my prices and I'm still booked out. The biggest mistake I made was not running ads sooner.

Reviews sit at the end of the pipeline
A lead comes in from your ads, you book the job, you do the work. The review request is the last step, and it feeds the first one next time, because a better profile turns more searches into calls.
It works best alongside missed call text back, an AI phone receptionist and WhatsApp lead alerts, so no enquiry is lost on the way in. Painters and decorators, for example, win work on photos and word of mouth, so see how it fits for painters and decorators and for carpet cleaning firms.

See every plan and priceQuestions owners ask us
Is it allowed to ask customers for Google reviews?
Yes. Asking is fine and Google encourages it. What you must not do is buy reviews, offer rewards for them or only ask people you know will be happy. Google publishes its own review rules, and we build the process around them. We ask every customer the same way.
Will customers find the text annoying?
Not when it is short, polite and sent once the job is done. We write it in your voice, send one gentle reminder at most and stop the moment they leave a review or reply.
Can I choose which jobs get a request?
Every finished job gets one, and that is on purpose. Google does not allow asking only the customers you expect to be happy. The request goes out when you mark the job as finished in your CRM, so if work is still being put right, it simply waits until the job is done.
What if a customer leaves a bad review?
It happens to every firm. Reply fast, stay calm, say what you will do to put it right and take the detail offline. Future customers read how you respond as much as the review itself.
Do you write the reviews for customers?
No. Reviews have to come from real customers in their own words. We make it easy for them to leave one, nothing more.
